About me

I am a writer with a particular interest art, literature, nature, and history, and the politics of how these ideas overlap and interact. My work is published or forthcoming in the Times Literary Supplement, the London Magazine, the Telegraph, Apollo Magazine, the Spectator, History Today and Slightly Foxed, among other places. I am currently working on a book about the enclosure of the commons for Reaktion Books.

I hold a doctorate from Oxford University, for which I wrote a thesis on nostalgia and historical fiction in the nineteenth century. My scholarly book, Twilight Histories, was published by Brill in 2023.

I have taught widely across the arts and humanities at Oxford University, for Middlebury College’s Oxford Humanities Programme, and at the University of Lüneburg. I have also devised and delivered summer school and after school classes for Universify and the Brilliant Club. I have lived and worked in Russia and Germany and am currently based in the Yorkshire Dales.
